Cisco
is an American multinational corporation established in San Jose, California.
The system was founded in December 1984 by Leonard Bosack. On traditional business side,
Cisco continued to expand its enterprise-focused on routing, switching and
security assortment. The name "Cisco" was derived from the city name,
San Francisco, which is why the company's engineers insisted on using the lower
case "cisco" in its early years. The logo is intended to represent
the two towers of the GoldenGate Bridge in
San Francisco.
In the second half of 1990s, the phenomenal expansion of the
Internet rapidly changed the telecom landscape. For instance, Internet
Protocols (IPs) became widely implemented, the significance of multi-protocol
routing deteriorated. Nevertheless, Cisco managed to join the Internet wave early and provided products ranging from modem access shelves (AS5200) to core Gigabit Switch Router (GSR) that quickly became vital to
ISPs and by 1998 gave Cisco de facto monopoly in this serious segment.
In 2000, Cisco became one of the most valuable corporations
in the world, with a market capitalisation of more than half trillion US dollar. In mid-2014, Cisco had a market cap of about US$129 billion, which
is still one of the most valuable companies.
Cisco’s Online Performance
As known, Web 2.0 applications are
among the top matters of concern for most Information Technology architects, Cisco
is one of those leading architects. According to INB347 Lecture -01- Slide -08-, there is very
high and quick increase in the use of social tools to
enhance online performance. Thus, in enticing customers to use online tools,
users might be able to solve their critical issues through online service
providers. Currently, Cisco has created its own channel that released on YouTube, which has almost
100,000 subscribers and more than 5 million views. While more than 710,000 Facebook likes. The other
impressive tool that Cisco integrate into their website is called Cisco Blogs page. The page provides
related topics/articles to their online readers. Please refer to the newest
released video as one of the examples. This
means, the 24/7 online business' can support customers/users without any complexity.
In addition, the continuous service between the organisation and users is an
open source with no consideration about cost, time, date and/or location. The other platform
is the Q&As section, this option enabled
Cisco Corporation to:

Know customer’s needs and
collect feedback.

Know the weaknesses and
improvement in a product or service may be requested.

Save time and reduce the communication
cost. Especially with large number of users.

Increase sales tools by
attracting individuals and other organisations.
In conclusion
In terms of appropriate use, Web 2.0 tools may result
significant enhancement in the companies’ interfaces. Therefore, using Blogs, YouTube, Facebook and Twitter can promote organisation's activities globally. We all
have been to grocery store, departments, Fast food and/or even a coffee shop. Do you never think standing in a long line is a disturbance? I think at least 1 in 3 answers is YES!
And you may ask yourself, is the little cup of coffee going to buy
worth it?

Wow nice history on Cisco...I love the fact that they are engaging their customers by using social media and the like but do they actively let users generate content at all? Such as utilizing YouTube live to host a panels or anything like that?

Currently, Cisco's new generation of technology word (Tomorrow Starts Here) is a plan to enable everyone to the momentum for unleashing an ocean of limitless dreams inspiring everyone to create an astonishing tomorrow.
So the Internet of everything = The generation of the possible.

Yeah I agree that staying in constant touch with the customers help in identifying and curbing out the problems.Cisco is using an optimal way of connecting with the users through social media. This was just a rhetorical question, because I really admire your blog and your creativeness.
When it comes to this blog post, I think that you could have at least made an introduction about the heading “Data is the next “Intel Inside” because not everyone is familiar with this O’Reilly’s phrase. You have just presented us with the example, from which one could conclude that the main topic of this article is just using social tools to get feedback from its users. What O’Reilly meant by Data is the next “Intel Inside” is that collecting important data is the future of almost every development when it comes to web platforms. But he considered Google as one of the greatest examples of collecting data (http://radar.oreilly.com/2007/12/google-admits-data-is-the-inte.html), and Google is not doing that by using Facebook and Twitter. Using “search keywords” and information on websites are other great ways to collect the data. Readers should know that there are many different ways of collecting data via internet.
I don’t mean that you made a mistake, just that you skip the introduction, but I agree that Cisco is another fantastic example of how collecting valuable data can improve the business and platforms. Please consider this comment as another valuable data, a feedback created only to help you improve your blog.

DeleteAs we know that after Web 2.0 has been existed, organisations such as Cisco cannot improve the business by itself without integrating into social tools. What I mean here is that the concept of new generation of technology (Web 2.0 patterns) is able to make huge changes in the company's structure.
Your question regarding where do I find those interesting examples?
I would not want you be surprised if I say that I spend hours and even the whole day just Googling and reading heaps of articles/ case studies to find out then decide to select the best to blog depending on source reliability, referencing availability...etc.
Yes, you are right when you said that not everyone is familiar with the phrase "Data is the next “Intel Inside” and me either until I attended the great lecture - 02 and read through slides 28 - 56.
